Training in Hof
Expand your skills in the use of laser systems with our 1.5-day training in Hof. Learn HoLEP-EPS under the guidance of Dr Sven Piesche by participating in live surgeries, where you will apply the theoretical knowledge acquired beforehand.
This one-and-a-half-day workshop in Hof offers an in-depth exploration of the HoLEP-EPS theory, complemented by live surgical demonstrations. The agenda also includes endoscopic stone surgery, with additional laser procedures (e.g., Thulium enucleation) available upon request. The newly established OR-Center at the Department of Urology, opening in 2025, is equipped with the latest technology, including Ho-, Tm-, Diode-, LBO-, and CO₂ lasers for a variety of indications. The HoLEP-EPS technique, developed in Hof, is performed with the JenaSurgical MultiPulse HoPLUS, the most advanced and powerful Holmium laser currently available for the treatment of benign prostatic hyperplasia. Additionally, the center functions as a premier training facility for both national and international guest physicians.

Dr. med. Sven Piesche
Dr. Sven Piesche, MD, pursued his medical studies at Ruprecht-Karls-University in Heidelberg and the University of California, San Francisco. He earned his doctoral degree with a focus on “Functional Magnetic Resonance Urography using the SIR-SE sequence” at the German Cancer Research Center, before commencing his surgical-urological specialist training. Since 2008, Dr. Piesche has served as Senior Consultant Urologist at Sana Hospital, representing the field of endoscopy and laser urology. He has engaged in extensive scientific research in this area, presenting his findings at national and international conferences. In 2014, he was honored with a scientific award from the Southwest German Society of Urology for his studies on the characteristics, cutting effects and penetration depths of holmium and thulium lasers, and was nominated for the prestigious CE-Alken Prize of the German CE-Alken Society.
This work finally resulted in the introduction of the HoLEP EPS (see also the website HoLEP-EPS.de), an optimized pulse setting with higer pulse energy, that allows safer, easier and faster enucleation. As this setting demands a high laser performance, it was consequently implemented in the JenaSurgical MultiPulse HoPLUS. With mor than 2,000 prostate holmium laser enucleations (HoLEPs) to his credit, Dr. Piesche is one of the most experienced surgeons for this technique in Germany.
