The Department of Urology at the hospital Vivantes Klinikum Am Urban is a leading center for modern endourological and laser-based treatment of benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) and urinary stone disease. With more than 4,000 patients treated annually, including over 2,500 endourological procedures, the department offers extensive experience in advanced minimally invasive surgery. State-of-the-art laser technologies, including Holmium Laser Enucleation of the Prostate (HoLEP), MiLEP and modern stone surgery enable safe, effective and patient-centered treatment.
Under the leadership of Dr. med. Martin Kanne, an internationally recognized expert in endourology and laser surgery, the department combines clinical excellence with education and innovation.
The JenaSurgical ACADEMY at Vivantes Klinikum Am Urban is designed for urologists who aim to expand and refine their expertise in modern laser surgery. The program combines live surgical demonstrations, expert lectures, interactive case discussions and direct exchange with participating urologists.

Dr. med. Martin Kanne is Head of Endourology at the Department of Urology at Vivantes Klinikum Am Urban in Berlin and an internationally recognized expert in endourological laser surgery. His main areas of expertise include the treatment of benign prostatic hyperplasia and complex urinary stone disease. After completing his medical studies at Philipps University Marburg and a clinical study period at the University of Granada, Dr. med. Kanne completed his urological training at Vivantes Auguste-Viktoria-Klinikum and Evangelisches Krankenhaus Königin Elisabeth Herzberge (KEH). He later served as Senior Consultant in Endourology and, from 2020, led the Endourological Laser Center.
Since 2026, Dr. med. Kanne has been responsible for the Endourology Department at Vivantes Klinikum Am Urban, with a strong focus on advanced laser-based procedures. His clinical expertise includes HoLEP, MiLEP, flexible ureteroscopy, Mini-PNL and complex endourological stone treatments. In addition to his clinical work, Dr. med. Kanne is actively involved in international education and research. He serves as lecturer, proctor and faculty member at international meetings and has organized and performed numerous HoLEP and MiLEP workshops across Europe, North, Central and South America.
With his extensive surgical experience and dedication to education, Dr. med. Kanne provides participants of the JenaSurgical ACADEMY with practical insights into modern endourological techniques and treatment strategies.
